On a magnificent fall morning, I made the trip down to the quaint county of Gochang where I was to photograph a lovely traditional wedding. Close friends and family came from all parts of the country to celebrate the marriage of Seong-cheol and In-hye. The couple have been together for years so this was really a just formality. Even so, it was a lovely celebration enjoyed by all!

After greeting some of the arriving guests it was time to get dressed in their traditional Korean hanboks and parade to the ceremony site.

The groom surprised his lovely bride with a serenade, which everyone clapped along to. His grandmother even got up to dance!

As per tradition, the tea ceremony followed. This is to officially welcome the bride into the groom’s family and to gift the newly-weds with gifts and words of wisdom for a happy marriage.

Seong-cheol and In-hye, my heartfelt thanks to you for sharing your special day with me! I had a wonderful morning photographing the traditional side of Korean marriage! May you continue to treasure each other everyday!

xoxo
