While many Korean brides plan their wedding at least a season in advance, Mina contacted me about a month before her wedding. She was originally not going to have a wedding because she didn’t like the idea of having the ordinary proceedings of the typical Korean wedding however she said she came across my photos of Pete and Sanha’s traditional ceremony, and the photos convinced her otherwise.

“I know Peter and I have seen their wedding photos several times. The photos contained the most beautiful moments of Peter and his wife, and thanks to the photos, I decided to hold a wedding ceremony as a traditional wedding ceremony.” 

As I am not a Korean-national, this to me was one of the most beautiful compliments I have received. I felt very honored to have convinced Mina to have a traditional ceremony though my pictures. All the traditions and the clothing are so beautiful to me and over the years I have made a big effort to learn the ceremony proceedings as well as the history and symbolism behind all of it. It made me very, very happy that I would have this small impact on keeping some traditions alive in a fastly modernizing country.

It was a beautiful fall day for a wedding, and here are some of my favorite images of their day: 

Mina and Yeongjin got dressed in a little room surrounded by beautiful traditional elements. This is actually my favorite part of the day, when they get dressed, because the traditional architecture combined with the hanboks make me feel like I’ve been transported back in time. Everything so elegant and rich, like in a movie:
