By the time Emily and Terry arrived in Japan for their wedding, their celebration already carried the weight of months of intention and anticipation. For a year and a half leading up to their day, we exchanged thoughtful emails and they shared pieces of their story with me—conversations about family, dreams, and the small details that mattered most to them. When I arrived to document their wedding photos in Japan, there was already an ease between us and our time together felt like spending meaningful, intentional time with dear friends. Continue reading to discover how their wedding photos in Japan came about, and how they celebrated in a way that felt entirely, beautifully their own.

The Winding Path to Emily and Terry’s Wedding Photos in Japan

After getting engaged in Seoul, Emily and Terry had hoped to hold their wedding in Korea. There was something deeply meaningful about the idea of returning to the place where their engagement began. As they began exploring the logistics, however, they realized the kind of experience they were envisioning would require more coordination than felt right at the time, so that particular plan gently fell away. Even so, we stayed connected, continuing our conversations and thoughtfully exploring what direction might feel most aligned instead.

Even with the slight change in plans, their desire to invest in beautiful, intentional imagery never wavered. They began to consider documenting wedding photos in Japan, and I was immediately on board. In the year leading up to their trip, we brainstormed ideas, exchanged inspiration, and sent Instagram messages across time zones. By the time their travel dates arrived, there was a quiet, shared anticipation for all that this adventure might hold.

Their Three-Part Wedding Photos Adventure

When planning the framework of Emily and Terry’s adventure, we approached it as a three-part story—beginning where their engagement started, and then stepping into two chapters in Japan for a dedicated wedding photoshoot. While they weren’t officially getting married on this trip, each location offered a distinct rhythm and atmosphere, capturing the full spirit of their relationship in a meaningful, intentional way.

Korea: A Meaningful Beginning for Their Wedding Photos

The first stop on Emily and Terry’s Asia adventure was Korea—the place where Terry had proposed years earlier. This time, Emily returned wearing her wedding dress, and the moment felt like returning to a cherished memory. The winter streets surrounding the park were painted with fallen leaves, giving the day a soft, muted hush. Every glance, laugh, and tender gesture the couple exchanged felt wrapped in full-circle magic.

Kyoto: Elegant Wedding Photos and Ancient Streets

The next stop in our adventure led us to Kyoto, Japan. After spending time researching the city and its hidden gems, I helped craft an itinerary that would allow Emily and Terry to experience this destination in a way that felt personal, immersive, and full of quiet wonder.

Our first stop was Lake Biwa, where fishing boats rested in the calm waters and autumn leaves still clung to the trees. We wandered freely, letting curiosity guide us while I documented moments that felt effortless. For this wedding photo portion, Emily wore a rich green gown, lending the day a regal, almost storybook quality.

The next morning, we rose before dawn to wander the Higashiyama District, home to the historic Yasaka Pagoda and the serene Kennin-ji Temple. These ancient streets carried a deep sense of history and gave the feeling of stepping quietly back in time.

After soaking in the calm beauty of these sites, we spent the day exploring Kyoto at our own pace, letting the city’s streets, temples, and hidden corners guide our adventure. Each moment felt intentional yet effortless, a reflection of Emily and Terry’s gentle rhythm together.

Tokyo: Vibrant Moments Full of Connection

The final destination of our three-part wedding photoshoot in Japan was Tokyo. With a city so vast and full of energy, we chose to slow down and spread the session across two days, giving space to really savor the experience.

Here, I got to document Emily and Terry in the ways that feel most like them. They are lovers of arcade games—the thrill of claw machines and the surprise of Gashapon toy capsules were some of the little joys they had woven into their wedding day and got to re-experience during their time in Japan. While visiting a local arcade, I photographed their laughter, their playful competitiveness, and the pure delight of being in a space that brings them such comfort and happiness, which added even more depth to their wedding photos in Japan.

We closed our Tokyo chapter much like we had in Kyoto—wandering the streets and letting inspiration guide us. These final images carried more of a street-style energy, capturing the city’s hum, its light, its grit, and the way Emily and Terry moved through it together. It was the perfect way to round out their wedding photos, and I feel so grateful to have shared these moments with them.

Advocating For You, Always

As your wedding photographer, my role goes beyond simply preserving images—it’s about creating space for your story to unfold exactly as you imagine. With Emily and Terry, that meant spending the months leading up to their trip studying travel vlogs—not just for inspiration, but to better understand the places we were stepping into, so I could approach their photos in a way that felt intentional.

During our morning session in Kyoto’s Higashiyama District, the streets were already full of tourists and photographers, even at an early hour. To ensure Emily and Terry could have the quiet, thoughtful images they wanted, I advocated for a brief, uninterrupted window—allowing the couple to move, laugh, and exist in the space fully, without interruption.

Emily and Terry’s Kind Words About Their Wedding Photos in Japan

Emily and Terry were kind enough to share a few thoughts about their experience capturing wedding photos in Japan. Here’s what they had to say about their adventure together.

“While we didn’t end up doing the wedding in Korea, we booked Lorryn for a super custom experience of joining us for part of our honeymoon in Korea/Japan and not only capturing the dreamy scenic shots, and intimate moments she excels at, but some fun candid travel roaming moments as well.

She was so absolutely wonderful to work with from the initial intake call. Listening to my crazy ideas and visions and jumping on board. Taking care of so many above and beyond details and answering questions outside her scope of work. Just being an absolute joy and friend to join us on this amazing journey. It never felt like we were working with a vendor. We were hanging out and traveling with our new best friend and that kind of comfort and rapport is how you take awkward non-models and get the most gorgeous photos out of them.

We love Lorryn to absolute pieces and the world should know. Our photos are so deeply cherished and just the perfect capture of our love at this moment in our lives. Every couple would be so lucky to be blessed with something like this for themselves. I promise you’ll treasure it forever and never regret a single cent spent on Lorryn and love.”

From Meaningful Moments to Lasting Memories

Working with Emily and Terry was a reminder of why I love what I do: creating beautiful, intentional images that capture the heart of a couple’s story. Beyond the photos, it’s about the experience—feeling fully present, letting your love guide the moments, and leaving with memories that are uniquely yours.
